Who are you, where are you from, and what is it that you do?
I am Dave Macarios and go by Demo Vision for my photography company, which is a separate story. Where I'm from is another story entirely, but for now...I was born in Sudan, spent a short part of my childhood in Lebanon, grew up in Canada and now live in the US. I do lots of things in addition to photography.
Why do you do what you do, and what is it that you are most passionate about?
I am passionate about capturing what I see and feel. There is an essence that we come to know about a person, even in a very short time. I simply try to capture what I see and feel about that person. My passion is to create and comes from striving to see what I capture in a photo.
Is there something you have learned about yourself or society because of the work you create?
That images are powerful forces for conversation and dialogue. We have insecurities and preconceived ideas about ourselves, others, and the motives behind a photo. The photo is simply a tool for reflection and dialogue around those insecurities and preconceived ideas.
Who is your favourite model you worked with, and why?
I worked with a model named Lily in my early years. She allowed me to develop my confidence and creativity, with genuine professionalism and openness. Shooting nudes was not easy in the early years. It gradually comes with time and working with talented individuals who can help guide the photographer.
Which artist do you admire the most or has been an example or mentor to you and why?
Tough question! I'd say there are three that I admire: Herb Ritts, Francesco Scavullo and Sam Haskins. If I had to pick one it would be Sam Haskins. There is grittiness, playfulness, spontaneity and novelty in his work. However, what appeals to me is the gritty playfulness seen in his work.
What is your most favourite artwork you created?
This photo is taken with a CONTAX 167M using Kodak TMAX 400. This was taken of a classmate who offered to be a model.
Where can we find more of you online?
You can find me at Model Society and Vero.
